S.P.Apparels acquires Sri Balaji Bakiam Spinning Mill at Vazhappadi in Salem District
S.P.Apparels has acquired Sri Balaji Bakiam Spinning Mill at Valapadi , near Salem,for Rs.26 Crore.A company release said that with the acquisition of the 12,672-spindle mill S.P.Apparels had become a fully-integrated textile company.The cost of acquisition would be partly funded through internal accruals and taking over of the bank liabilities.

SP APPARELS opened its 10th store at Hyderabad for the brand Crocodile. Crocodile launches 2 more stores
Crocodile launched two more stores in the city on Monday, one in Malakpet and the other in Trimulgherry, taking the total number of its stores to three. On the occasion, the garment brand also unveiled its new range of Autumn Winter collections.
"In view of growing response to the brand from the youth, we plan to have five stores in the city. The sale of T-Shirts alone has gone up by 17% across the country this year compared to last year," says Sanjay Chandrasekhar, vice president of Crocodile Product Limited.
"Currently we have 15 product lines in the stores and plan to add 10 more in the next financial year. Our next store will come up at Cyberabad," adds Sanjay.
Priced from Rs 300, the store offers a wide variety of T-Shirts, trousers, briefs and other accessories. For instance, the basic plain polo with knit, ribbed cuff and collar is priced at Rs 345 while the alligator fit comes for Rs 525. Hornet horizontal stripes is priced at Rs 595 whereas trousers will cost between Rs 1,000 and 2,000.
The Trimulgherry store with an area of 2000 sq.ft is the biggest store of Crocodile across the country.

Recognition for SP Apparels
S.P.Apparels, garment manufacturer and exporter here, had received international accreditation for its instrumental colour assessment in fabric.A release from the company said that it has got the accreditation under the Society of Dyers and Colourists' Colour Accreditation Scheme for its instrumental assessment of colour relating to textile substrates.

SP Apparels acquires women's brand Natalia
SP Apparels Ltd, a garment exporter and retailer, has bought the women's western wear brand 'Natalia' owned by Chennai garment exporter SM Apparels. This acquisition will help SP Apparels to tap the potential of the women's wear market in India. It is now present in this category only in the international market.
Managing director of SP Apparels P.Sundararajan told media persons on Tuesday that the acquisition involved an all cash deal but declined to divulge the amount. He said the company would be opening six exclusive business outlets owned by the company in Ahmedabad, Bangalore, Indore, Hyderabad, Kochi and Kolkata and was in talks with big format stores for displaying its products.
Sundararajan said the company was not opening outlets in Delhi and Mumbai at present because of the high real estate prices and space constraints. SP Apparels expects to invest Rs 5 crore in a year on the Natalia brand including stores. Natalia will target the middle and upper middle class segment in the age group of 20 to 35 years. Outlets would display the Natalia range of casuals and formal wear of trousers, ethic wear, shirts and T-shirts for women.
While SP Apparels will make T-Shirts in its manufacturing facility,the other products would be outsourced from Natalia's business associates. The price range will vary from Rs.295 to Rs.1,500 for the entire product line. Sundararajan added that SP Apparels would be also looking at opening a kids wear line. Former Director of the Natalia brand, Sujatapai, said SM Apparels had a turnover of Rs 150 crore last fiscal while brand Natalia posted a turnover of Rs 1.52 crore.
Talking about SP Apparels' 'Crocodile brand that the company bought about 11 months ago, Sundararajan said it was worth Rs 12 crore at present, up from Rs 8 crore when it was acquired. The company diluted 10percent stake in November last year worth Rs 36 crore for use in various projects.
SP Apparels recorded a topline of Rs 265 crore for FY'07 registering a growth of 39 percent in exports and a 30 percent in domestic sales.

Textile Firms Focus On Brand Building
A New Face
While some players in the garments industry are into brand development in the domestic market, others are on the powerful for acquiring already existing brands.
Enthused by the domestic market's growing appetite for branded garments, some leading textile units here are now focused on acquiring or building a brand in the domestic market.Most of these units are into exports and have integrated production facilities. SP Apparels (SPAL), a local garment exporter, is on the prowl for acquiring a kids wear brand. The company recently acquired Crocodile and Natalia brands. Mr.P.Sundararajan, Managing Director, SPAL, told ET: “ The units here would be able to provide garments of international quality in the domestic market, since they have facilities such as design studio and supply to some of the leading buyers in the European and US markets”.
Industry sources said that Brandot International is flnalising a joint venture with the Bannari Amman group to set up an export garmenting facility in Chennai. Sources indicated that Bannari would be launching their own brand of premium women's inner wear. Tirupur based royal Classic group, which already owns the menswear brand Classic Polo, plans to launch O press – a premium trouser brand, Garment exporter Tubeknit Fashions too plans to build a brand for their men and women's wear in the domestic market. Its managing director Mr.P.Parthasaradhi said that brand development is on the cards as they already have the manufacturing facilities that will help in developing a brand for the domestic market.
